BioPoly, LLC’s entrepreneurial journey began humbly in 2004 with an idea to develop orthopaedic implants from a new material that a professor at Colorado State University invented. The material which is called BioPoly®, the only of its kind in the world, is a self-lubricated polymer that has many orthopaedic and other medical uses. The company joined The NIIC in 2004 and with The NIIC’s help received a 21 Fund grant from the State of Indiana to initiate the BioPoly development process and launch the company. Fast forward to today, as the Company celebrates its grand opening and establishes its global headquarters in Fort Wayne, Indiana on Friday, May 5, 2017, 5:00 to 6:30 p.m., 7136 Gettysburg Pike, Fort Wayne, IN 46804.

“We will be honored to have our investors, suppliers, friends, associates and the Fort Wayne community join us to celebrate this important milestone,” stated Herb Schwartz, President & CEO, BioPoly, LLC. The BioPoly team will provide tours, share company information and share about the company’s mission and vision.

“BioPoly, LLC is a great success story, of a company starting small, being supported by the local, regional, and state communities, and pivoting several times to evolve as a company with solid product offerings and a global footprint. BioPoly employs seven full-time staff members, and its intellectual property portfolio includes 13 U.S. patents since the company’s inception,” said Karl R. LaPan, President & CEO, The NIIC.

Schwartz commented, “We couldn’t have accomplished this without The NIIC. The NIIC provided us with networking, mentoring, resources, facilities and accountability for our success. With the help of The NIIC, we developed our business plan so that we could secure funding through investors. Seeing and talking with other NIIC clients who succeeded helped to inspire us along the way.”

About The NIIC

The NIIC is a non-profit, community-based entrepreneurial community. We assist business builders and entrepreneurs to launch, expand, or re-invent successful businesses and ventures in Northeast Indiana. Formed in 1999 by a consortium of community and government leaders and organizations in 2013, The NIIC was recognized by Entrepreneur Magazine as one of the top four under-the-radar incubators in the country. This basically means Entrepreneur magazine, with the help of International Business Incubation Association, picked four U.S. incubators to highlight, and we were one of them. In their words, we “stand out in a state not always perceived as small business friendly.” The NIIC is the country’s only ISO9001: 2008 registered business incubation and acceleration program.
