Have you read a book with a message that lingers, just won’t let you go? The Last Arrow, Save Nothing for the Next Life is that kind of book for me. With the holiday season, the year-end and the New Year all approaching within the next two months, I encourage you to pause for inspiration through this book.
Author Erwin Raphael McManus urges you to action, through his perspective as a survivor of a life-threatening illness. He begins the book with a challenge: “You have one life to use everything you have been entrusted with, so you might as well save nothing for the next life.”
How are you living this life? Each moment is a gift. In this day of instant gratification, social media constant connectivity, binge watching and live streaming, how are you investing your time into actions that fuel your future? That maximize your talents and gifts? That allow you to live with no regrets? That mark your legacy?
McManus’ concluding challenge is this, “Ralph Waldo Emerson said, ‘The way to write is to throw your body at the mark when your arrows are spent.’ I agree wholeheartedly, except I would add one particular nuance: that the way to live is to throw your body at the mark when your arrows are spent. May we all stand…charging fearlessly…and know that when it’s all said and done, we struck our last arrow.”
