Accountability is one of the most important traits an entrepreneur can possess. A mindset to help a business builder succeed.
Individuals who are not business owners are held accountable by employers to show up for work each day, do their best and finish tasks assigned to them. Entrepreneurs are held accountable by their clients to provide their product or service and to themselves to market their business, keep track of all income and expenses and make all the decisions that affect every aspect of their business. How can you become more accountable for your success? Here are three tips.
1. Learn responsibility. We all make choices every day. Those choices may not be the best. We learn to accept the consequences of our choices, learn from them and move on. I have a picture in my house that I look at every day that represents this concept. It reads: “Accept what is, Let go of what was, Have faith in what will be.” It is a great reminder to keep moving forward, even when things don’t always turn out the way we would like.
2. Find someone to help you with your choices. Mentors have experience with issues that many new business owners do not. They can give first-hand advice and are truly on your side. They want you to succeed and are willing to share their knowledge in order to see that happen. When looking for a mentor, find someone who is trustworthy, with whom you can openly communicate. Accountability partners can also be helpful. Choose someone who wants you to succeed but who will not accept any excuses as to why you didn’t fulfill the tasks that were to be finished.
3. Be realistic. Say “no” to events that will not benefit your business. Stop making excuses and accept responsibility for your actions. Trust yourself to know what is best for you and your business. Be honest with yourself. Know your goals and work diligently to achieve them.
YOU are the driving force behind what you want to achieve. Do the best you can each day with the knowledge that life can sometimes get in the way of what you had planned for the day. Remember, tomorrow is a new day to get back on track.
