The owners of CapeAble Sensory Products, a northeast Indiana-based women-owned business, has been nominated for the 2017 Small Business Association Person(s) of the Year Award by the Women’s Economic Opportunity Center (WEOC) at the Northeast Indiana Innovation Center. Marna Pacheco and Susan Hickock founded the company in 2013, inspired by their own experiences with weighted products for their children.
The SBA will look at the following criteria for the selection of the award winners:
Sandra R. Wharton, Director of the WEOC, says “We are honored to nominate Marna and Susan for this award for their innovativeness, response to adversity, and contributions to their communities. CapeAble is an emerging Indiana business that manufactures and sells an innovative line of sensory products. Their innovative product, born out of adversity from caring for adopted children who experienced Early Childhood Trauma, is now helping police officers who experience post-traumatic stress, as well as individuals experiencing ADHD, Autism, traumatic brain injury, Alzheimer’s Disease, and other disorders.”
CapeAble has created a new standard in the weighted products industry. From weighted blankets and capes to lap pads and more, each product is designed to instill hope and provide comfort for children and adults alike. Whether for anxiety, sensory disorders, or other physical or neurological issues, CapeAble’s unique patent pending design propels the central nervous system to communicate more effectively with the brain. As a result, individuals experience improved focus and ability, relief from stress and anxiety, and a feeling of comfort.
“Susan and I are honored that the WEOC nominated us for this award,” Pacheco says. “The WEOC has been so helpful as we have grown our business by providing mentoring, resources, and contacts.”
National award winners will be announced during National Small Business week in May 2017.
Created by two Indiana mothers, CapeAble Sensory Products designs, manufactures, and sells weighted blankets, weighted wearables, and non-weighted sensory enrichment tools that address a variety of symptoms of stress and anxiety, as well as Autism, Attention Deficit Disorder, Down Syndrome, Parkinson’s Disease, and mental health conditions. The innovative products calm, soothe, focus and delight.
