NIIC expands entrepreneurial offerings to rural communities

Former Member of Congress and current Senior Advisor for Rural Delivery, Engagement and Prosperity Rural Development with the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Cindy Axne, along with Anthony Kirland, Business and Cooperative Programs Director for USDA Rural Development Indiana visited NIIC this summer to discuss rural business supports with NIIC leadership and NIIC’s rural Entrepreneurship Coach, Angie Harrison.

Fort Wayne, IN – NIIC is expanding its Entrepreneurship for All program in the region by providing increased on-site technical assistance to residents in six of northeast Indiana’s 10 rural counties.

In partnership with economic development corporations, chambers of commerce, and main street partner organizations, NIIC will provide group coaching, tailored one-on-one entrepreneur and small business coaching, and Spanish-language coaching and resources.

The Entrepreneurship for All program will provide technical assistance to small businesses through the following activities:

– Providing direct, one-to-one business coaching;

– Offering engaged, entrepreneurial mentorship;

– Engaging with trusted advisors to deliver targeted advice and counsel;

– Working with small businesses to navigate challenges and opportunities;

– Meeting entrepreneurs in the communities where they deliver business;

– Partnering with local economic development organizations;

– Connecting small businesses and entrepreneurs with relevant programs and services from around the region and the state.

Expanded services have been made possible thanks to a grant from the Rural Business Development Grant (RBDG) through the USDA. The purpose of the RBDG is to promote economic development and job creation job training and leadership development in rural areas.
