Try, Try Again

It may feel like a roller coaster ride. Excitement and fear entwine you as you embark on the road to entrepreneurship. It takes guts and grit to achieve glory.

As with every roller coaster, it isn’t always uphill. There are jolts, tilts, and downturns. Because many of us have learned that failure is something to avoid or an embarrassment, some business owners feel like downtimes are dead ends. Discouragement can easily creep in. Mistakes may feel like signs that a dream isn’t for you.

Some people experience the worst case where, because of the fear of failure, they feel paralyzed to start. Yet, the reality is that everyone has failed and is bound to fail again. It’s okay. It’s time to break free from the fear of failure and embrace it instead.

Here are three reasons why.

  1. Failures are like fertilizers.

Sure, they stink, but fertilizers make plants grow faster. In the same way, facing a challenge taps your inner strength. Forced to stretch, you push yourself further and redefine limitations. You unleash your maximum potential.

Failures may feel undesirable, but they make you wiser, stronger, and equipped for the next chapter in life and in business. As the famous Thich Nhat Hanh quote goes, “No mud, no lotus.”

  1. Failures humble and hone your character.

There are certain values that failing underscores greater than when you are succeeding, such as humility and character. It is easy to feel good and do good when everything is going great. When things are not going your way, how do you respond? Failures humble us and make us evaluate situations and ourselves better. It teaches us to listen and even ask for help.

Failures point us to hope. We learn to expect that the circumstances will eventually turn out for the good and that there is a greater message coming from the experience.

  1. Define failures or let them define you.

You hold so much greatness in you, so much so that circumstances are irrelevant unless you give them a say in who you are and your endeavors.

We always have a choice. See failures as drawbacks or as stepping stones. It’s okay to feel frustrated at first. Yet, it’s important to get up and try again, again, and again—as long as it takes to get the result you promised. Take hold of the pen and define who you are and how your journey will be. You are always more than the circumstances around you.

Winston Churchill was famous for the saying, “Success is walking from failure to failure with no loss of enthusiasm.” I couldn’t agree more.

What separates the successful from the unsuccessful? It is the will and determination to keep on, no matter what. Don’t just fail. Fail forward. The promise when you stand up after falling? The comeback is always greater than the setback.

Overcoming is so much easier when you journey with an empowered community, driven to win and help others win. We are always here for you—to support, encourage, and give you all the tools you need to try again.

We’re excited for your breakthrough!
