Indiana’s own Angie Hicks, Co-Founder of Angie’s List and Chief Customer Officer at ANGI Homeservices, will serve as the keynote speaker for The NIIC’s Ideas@Work Signature Conference on April 17, 2018, at the Parkview Mirro Center for Research and Innovation. Her keynote is titled What Does It Mean to Be An Entrepreneur.
“I enjoy being able to return to Fort Wayne and share my story. It’s exciting to see the work being done there and I’m happy to share from my experience, in the hope that it might inspire and help other entrepreneurs as they begin their journeys,” stated Hicks. The NIIC is celebrating its fifth year of Ideas@Work, where entrepreneurs, business leaders, and students convene to celebrate entrepreneurship and to fuel the innovative and entrepreneurial spirit and energy in Northeast Indiana. “The NIIC is honored that Angie is serving as keynote to help celebrate amazing innovators and inspire future business builders in starting, launching, and growing their businesses in Indiana. Angie is a distinguished Hoosier entrepreneur and epitomizes civic leadership and engagement, driven by her heart, determination, and her business acumen to develop and build a highly recognized national brand franchise and successful publicly traded company before its acquisition,” said Karl R. LaPan, President & CEO, The NIIC. Hicks is currently serving as the Chief Customer Officer at ANGI Homeservices. Previously, Ms. Hicks cofounded Angie’s List in 1995 and served both as the company’s Chief Marketing Officer (from May 2000) and on its board of directors (from March 2013) leading up to the acquisition of Angie’s List by IAC’s HomeAdvisor in October of 2017. Hicks earned a Master of Business Administration from Harvard Business School and a Bachelor of Arts in economics from DePauw University, which has honored her with a Distinguished Alumni Award for Management and Entrepreneurship and with the Robert C. McDermond Medal for Excellence in Entrepreneurship. In 2009, she won the Indiana Commission for Women Torchbearer Award for entrepreneurial accomplishments, and in 2014 she was chosen to deliver the annual Hazelett Women in Leadership Forum lecture. In 2016, Hicks was named the Women Tech Founder of the Year, and in 2017 she received both the TechPoint Trailblazer Award and Harvard Business School’s Alumni Achievement Award. She is also a co-founder and past board member of The Governor Bob Orr Indiana Entrepreneurial Fellowship Program and a current member of the ANGI Homeservices board of directors. “
Join us at the Ideas@Work event, where we will present the Mirro Student Founder Award to a Student Venture Lab client. There will also be special recognition for our Launch Women Business Builder Program participants, as well as recognition of entrepreneurs and the organizations that support innovation in our region,” said LaPan. About The NIIC—The NIIC is a non-profit, vibrant entrepreneurial community. We help business builders and entrepreneurs launch and grow successful business ventures. Formed in 1999 by a consortium of community and government leaders and organizations in 2013, The NIIC was recognized by Entrepreneur magazine as one of the top four under-the-radar incubators in the country. This basically means Entrepreneur magazine, with the help of International Business Incubation Association, picked four U.S. incubators to highlight, and we were one of them. In their words, we “stand out in a state not always perceived as small business friendly.” The NIIC is the country’s only ISO9001: 2008 registered business incubation and acceleration program.
